Mary Lou Dixon, 84, of West Haven, passed away July 7, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Haven on September 21, 1939, a daughter of the late John Robert and Ann (Kennedy) Thompson, Jr. Survived by children Robert (Cathy) Dixon of West Haven, Rosemary McDonnell of West Haven, James Dixon of Middletown, John (Marcia) Dixon of North Haven, Donna (Mark) Bouffard of North Haven, and Dennis (Margaret) Dixon of West Haven; grandchildren Jimmy McDonnell of West Haven, Deb (Julio) Martinez of Meriden, John (Melody) McDonnell of Milford, Justin (Katie) Dixon of Hamden, Britney Dixon of Charlotte NC, Victoria Bouffard of Boston MA, and Casey Bouffard of Providence RI; great-grandchildren Tino, Jake, and Cody Martinez, Aurora Rutkowski, Olivia and Ella McDonnell; as well as sister Catherine Johnson of North Branford. Preceded in death by her cherished husband of sixty-eight years, Robert E. Dixon, Sr., brother John Robert Thompson III; daughter-in-law Nancy (Twohill) Dixon; as well as great-grandson Odin McDonnell.
Mary Lou worked for the West Haven Board of Education from 1976-2005 as an Executive Secretary for the Superintendent and several Assistant Superintendents. She ended her career as the first Manager of the College Career Center at West Haven High School. She also, was a longtime member and steward for CWA Local 1103.
Mary Lou was full of love and laughter; she touched the lives of many including her cherished family.
In addition to her numerous hobbies nothing was more important than her family. She spent her time attending basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball games of her six children, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She also never missed a dance recital, concert, art show or play.
Mary Lou loved to be in her kitchen cooking or baking with her grandchildren, and enjoyed sharing family recipes, particularly for her delicious pumpkin bread.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 18th at 9:30am in St. John Vianney Church of St. John XXIII Parish. Inurnment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford.
