Mason J. Scranton

Mason J. Scranton, 63, of West Haven, passed away on October 20, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Haven on August 30, 1961, he was the son of the late George and Shirley (Hamelin) Scranton.

Mason is survived by his devoted spouse, Lisa, and their two children: son Jacob and daughter Emily (Juan). He is also remembered by his siblings, David, Richard, Marilee, and Christopher, along with many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.

A lifelong resident of West Haven, Mason graduated from West Haven High School in 1979. He was known affectionately by his peers as "Weather Lip" for his passion for storms, natural phenomena, and all things that grow. Mason and his brother Chris dedicated much of their time to the family's hay farm in Cornwall, CT. There, Mason enjoyed a lifetime of camping, gardening, farming, and riding horses with beloved neighbors. His life was marked by a commitment to family, traditional holiday celebrations, and deep bonds with those he loved.

Mason was a member of Christ Church in West Haven and the Masonic Temple in New Haven. He also had a passion for historic home renovations and was an enthusiastic storm chaser. Mason will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.

Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A memorial gathering will be held in the funeral parlor on Friday, October 25th, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, with a Masonic Temple Honoring at 6:30pm in the funeral parlor. A memorial service will be held on Saturday,10 o'clock, at Church of the Holy Spirit, West Haven with a reception to follow.
