Mildred "Millie" (Testa) Piccolo

June 27, 1929 ~ July 21, 2023 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Obituary

Piccolo (Testa), Mildred affectionately known as “Millie” entered into eternal rest Friday, July 21, 2023.

Millie was born in New Haven to the late David R. Testa & Angelina M. (Latella) Testa. She was pre-deceased by loving husband Salvatore Piccolo and her brothers David S. Testa & Ernest V. Testa.

She is survived by her sister Dorothy Berg of Prospect & brother Raymond (Lucille) Testa of North Haven. Millie leaves behind her 4 sons and a daughter-in-law whom she loved dearly: Salvatore D. Piccolo of West Haven, Kenneth B. Piccolo, Ronald G. Piccolo of East Haven, and Kevin M. & Celeste Piccolo of Boynton Beach, Florida. As well as her beloved grandchildren: Michelle (Timothy) Collin, Nicole (Michael) Iannucci, Danielle Piccolo, Joseph Piccolo, Christopher Piccolo, Kenneth Piccolo Jr, Michael (Lei) Denegre, 5 great-grandchildren and many cherished extended family members & friends.

Millie’s passion for being a beautician led her to graduate from Elm City Beauty Academy the same year she graduated Hamden High School in 1947. She went on to teach at Elm City Beauty Academy and then owned & operated several salons in both CT and FL, before turning in her scissors at the age of 75. She also had a love for traveling the world which sparked her interest to also be a part-time travel agent.

After living in Connecticut for 55 years, she moved to Delray Beach, Florida. Millie loved being a Florida resident & after she retired, she donated her time by volunteering at local theaters as an usher or working the Florida State voting polls. Being very talented at crocheting, she made countless blankets, booties & mittens for NICU babies at local FL hospitals as well as Mercy Medical, Rockville Center North Shore Hospital, & Mt. Sinai Clinics for Women, all of New York. When she wasn’t volunteering, Millie was bowling on her women’s league, dancing, serving on the board for the High Point community as well as the Floral Lakes Italian Club. She was an avid Pinochle/Poker/Mah Jong player, enjoyed her weekly Word Jumbles and had a love for reading. When she wasn’t busy with any of those activities, you would find Millie cooking or baking up a storm in her kitchen, especially during the Christmas season, as this was the time of year she held most near & dear to her heart.

Nothing made Millie happier than spending time with her family & friends. She will be most remembered for her Vivacious Spirit, Infectious Laugh, Glamourous Style, Respected Words of Wisdom, being a Devout Catholic and her Incredibly Loving Heart. She truly “left a little sparkle wherever she went” & her legacy will live on through all the lives she touched over her precious 94 years of life.

Visitation will be held on Thursday September 7th from 4-6pm, with a memorial service to celebrate Millie’s life at 6pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Millie's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
