Nancy Cirasuolo Obituary

Nancy Cirasuolo, 96, of North Haven, formerly of West Haven, entered into eternal rest on September 11, 2024.  She was married to her one and only love the late John Cirasuolo for 59 years.  Born in West Haven on March 14, 1928, she was one of ten children born to the late Luigi and Maria Nacca. The matriarch of a large family, Nancy leaves five daughters Nancy (William) Kearns, Lynn Cavallaro, Gaye (Walter) Lessandrini, Robyn (Robert) Proto, and Tracy (Stephen, West Shore Fire Chief) Scafariello.  She was blessed with ten grandchildren including William Kearns (Ashely Belas), Nicole (James) Cosgrove, Tara (Garrett) Hoffer, John (Michele) Lessandrini, Scott (Sandy) Cavallaro, Mark (Amanda) Lessandrini, Brett (Erica) Lessandrini, Robert (Sarah) Proto, Jake Scafariello (Betsy O’Brien), Kyle Scafariello (Monica) and ten great grandchildren, Ava, Lila, Alana, Carter, Shaun, Gianni, Gabriella, Jacob, Robert and Dominick.  In addition, her sisters Lucy (the late Douglas) Preston, Virgina (Vincent) Corso, sister-in-law Winifred Nacca, and many nephews and nieces survive her.

She was predeceased by siblings Anthony, Domenic Patrick, Salvatore, Vincent and Rose Nacca, Grace Pagano, Alvira D‘Amato and by her niece Rose “Rosalina” Pagano who was very dear to her.

Nancy and her husband spent most of their married life living in West Haven.  In retirement, they moved to North Haven. They were the owners of Cirasuolo Plumbing and Heating, and West Haven Realty. Very active in their community, Nancy and John were two of the founding members of the Italian American Club, West Haven and in 1978, Nancy became President of the clubs Ladies Auxiliary. She organized and chaired many charitable fundraising events, one of the largest for the American Cancer Society.

Her life was devoted to her husband John and the raising of their five daughters. The family homestead on Ocean Avenue was a warm and welcoming gathering place for family and friends. Weekly Sunday dinners were filled with amazing food and animated conversations, as was the annual 3rd of July party, a front row seat to the fireworks. Affectionately known as Philomena, Mom, Grandma, Gram and Grandma Grandma, Nancy’s cooking and baking skills brought great joy to her, her family members and friends. From baking and decorating cakes for birthdays and other special occasions, to delivering her delicious eggplant parmigiana to an ill friend, Nancy will be remembered for her nurturing and caring ways. Later in life Nancy enjoyed watching and cheering for the NY Yankees.  Often, she was heard asking “Are the Yankees playing today?”

Nancy’s entire family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Keep Me Home, the Hospital of Saint Raphael and The Connecticut Hospice for keeping Mom comfortable in her final days.
