Nancy Dargan Obituary

Nancy Jeanne Holleran Dargan, age 91, of West Haven passed away at home, due to complications of Covid-19, on March 15, 2021.  For 66 years, she was the loving wife of Richard Pierce Dargan.  Nancy was born in New Haven, the only daughter of the late Judge William T. and Josephine M. Stoddard Holleran.  She is also survived by her children, Richard P. Dargan and his wife Maryann of Ohio,  Kathleen S. Dargan Neelon and her husband Michael of Wallingford and Patricia A. Dargan Ferraro and her husband Mark, her grandchildren, Erin (Mark) Vleugels, Kate Dargan, Ailene (Adam) Zaebst, Chelsea Neelon, Taylor Neelon and US Army Sgt. Michael Patrick Neelon, her great granddaughter Grace Catherine Vleugels and her cousin Richard (Carol) Pleines of Killingworth.  Nancy was predeceased by her great granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Vleugels.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Rebecca Gray and Donna MacLennan for the tremendous care they gave Nancy in the last several years.  We could not have done it without them.

Nancy was a proud graduate of Albertus Magnus College.  She was employed for the West Haven Board of Education as an English and Reading teacher for over 30 years.  She also served as the English Department Head for several years.  Nancy was very active; she was a Director of the West Haven Chorale, a member of the West Haven Junior Women’s League and the St. Theresa Guild at St. Lawrence Church, as well as a passionate gardener.  She was an enthusiastic sports fan and an avid golfer.  After her retirement, Richard and she enjoyed spending the winter months golfing in North Myrtle Beach.  Nancy was very progressive in her thoughts and actions.  Her family home was a place of many fun filled gatherings and many times had lively discussions and debates on innumerable subjects.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on April 24th at 10am in St. Lawrence Church.  Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.  West Haven Funeral Home at the Green is entrusted with arrangements.  Should family and friends desire, contributions in Nancy’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or Cure SMA.
