Nicolo “Nick” Gianquinto, 85, of West Haven, died on April 8, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born in Trapani, Sicily on November 29, 1936, a son of the late Pietro and Maria (Marino) Gianquinto. Nick is survived by his loving daughter Mary (John) Shepa and son Peter (Heidi) Gianquinto, both of Bethany; brother Louis (Phyllis) Gianquinto, of West Haven; and especially adored grandchildren Stephanie (John) Gagel, Michael Shepa, as well as Peter, Grace, and Luke Gianquinto. He is additionally predeceased by his beloved wife Lillian (Acolla) Gianquinto.
Nick immigrated with his family in 1953, always taking great pride in becoming a United States citizen. He married his great love Lillian in 1961, enjoying nearly forty years together as husband and wife. Ever the talented builder, Nick’s career was spent as a construction foreman for the Apple Oil Company, as well as Custom Home Developers. His steadfast talent and passion for craftsmanship remain a lasting gift to his family, as he built the home for each of his children when they married. An overall sports enthusiast, Nick’s favored pastime included watching the New Haven minor league hockey games with his friend Rocky Malerba, and he particularly enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s chosen sport, whether softball, baseball, or gymnastics. Nick waged a valiant fight until the very end, he will remain forever missed by all those who knew him.
Calling hours will take place on Monday, April 11th, from four to seven o’clock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, ten o’clock, at Church of Our Lady of Assumption, with a procession departing the funeral home at 9:30am. Entombment will immediately follow in St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick’s honor to the American Cancer Society, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
