Nilda M. Melendez, 87, passed away on February 2, 2021 after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Wilfredo Melendez-Colon. Nilda was born on January 12, 1934 in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, daughter of Manuel and Modesta Rivera-Rodriguez. She is survived by her children, Martha Melendez (Brian Pickering) of West Haven, Willie ((Evelyn) Melendez of Hamden and Jessica Melendez-Cardenas (Enrique) of Lutz, FL; seven grandchildren: Denise (Johnny), Jonathan, Kyle, Hannah, Andres, Elena, and Enrique and four great-grandchildren: Leia, Kamren, Delilah and Lillyana. In addition to her husband Wilfredo, Nilda is predeceased by her daughter Jessie Annette and son David Melendez. Throughout her life, Nilda resided in New Haven, CT, Puerto Rico and Tampa, FL with her family. She was a long-time communicant of Church of St. Louis. Nilda enjoyed crocheting, sewing, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren. Nilda’s family would like to thank the staff at Apple Rehab for their care and kindness for Mom.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 11th, from 4-7PM, at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday morning at 10:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial in the Church of St. Louis. Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
