Patricia Ann Fleury, age 64, of North Branford passed away after a long illness, surrounded by her family, on August 24, 2024, at Yale New Haven Hospital. Patty was born on July 19, 1960, in West Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of John Muzzio and the late Kathleen Evans Muzzio.
In addition to her father, Patricia is survived by her sons, Brian (Heather) Fleury of East Hampton, and Christopher (Alexis) Fleury of Madison; her seven grandchildren Rosalie, Christopher (CJ), Riley, Padmé, Emrys, Phoenix and Silvia. She is also survived by her siblings Mary Ellen Godin of Meriden, Kathy Hurney of CA, John Muzzio of Southbury, and Nick Muzzio of Canada.
She attended schools in Wilmington, Del., Trumbull, CT, California, and the Gateway Community College nursing program.
Patty’s career path was an adventure. She began working in a venetian blind factory in the San Francisco Bay area after high school. Later, she became a bank teller and was promoted to bank supervisor. After a bank robbery, she trained to be a travel agent and enjoyed international and domestic adventures. Patty worked for WorldTek in New Haven where she managed travel for the Syracuse basketball team during the Big East men’s championships.
At age 47, she graduated from nursing school and worked at Gaylord Specialty Care and Masonicare, both in Wallingford. She loved nursing and the many friends she made on the job. Patty had begun working in the new COVID ward at Masonicare when she received word of her devastating illness.
Patty had a mischievous smile that easily won friends and hearts. She had a quick sense of humor and impeccable timing that spared no one. She also welcomed and supported others without judgment.
Throughout her life, Patty was dedicated to her boys, enriching their lives and those of her family members. That dedication carried through to the grandchildren she loved so much.
The hours for visitation will be held on Saturday from 11am – 1pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A Memorial Service will commence at the funeral home at 1 pm. Interment will be private.
