Paul J. "Buzzy" McGovern

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Paul "Buzzy" McGovern, of West Haven, on November 19, 2023.  Born in New Haven on August 23, 1947, a son of the late Luke and Ann Withington McGovern.  Survived by his wife of 36 years, Patricia “Patty” Ayres McGovern; brother-in-law Raymond W. (Fayne) Ayres; as well as many cousins.  Buzzy was additionally preceded in death by his brother Luke J. McGovern.

A kind and easygoing gentleman, with no harsh words towards anyone, Buzzy was well-known and appreciated by his colleagues of 22 years at Yale University.  He loved his college sports, especially Yale football and basketball.  For years he attended many games with his best friend of over 60 years, Walter Murray.  He also enjoyed long walks along the West Haven shoreline.  Buzzy was a devoted husband and a loyal friend who will be missed, but never forgotten.

Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1st, from 8:30 to 10:30. His procession will then depart the funeral home for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Vianney Church, St. John XXIII Parish at 11 am.  Interment will be private.
