Ralph U. Meliso, 80, of West Haven entered into rest on August 12, 2023 surrounded by his family and best friends. Ralph leaves his high school sweetheart, wife of 58 years, Linda Grammatico Meliso, sons Ralph (Barbara) and Anthony (Nancy), two grandchildren, his pride and joy Abigail and Ralph “Sam” Meliso and siblings Kathleen (Chris) Powers, Cary (Jackie) Meliso and Allen (Carol) Meliso. Born in New Haven, February 16, 1943, Ralph was a son of the late Ralph and Maria Maresca Meliso. He retired from the West Haven Police Dept. as a lieutenant after 28 years of dedicated service to the city. He also proudly served in the US Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVA 42.
In addition to serving his country and community, Ralph had an unwavering faith and blessed those around him with his kindness and humor. He cherished his family and friends with unconditional love and commitment. As we bid farewell to Ralph, we remember the countless times he made us smile, the warmth of his embrace, and the comfort of his belief.
The hours for visitation will take place on Thursday August 17 from 4 to 7 pm at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. On Friday morning his procession will leave the funeral home at 9 o’clock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Louis Church of St. John XXIII Parish at 9:30. Interment, with military honors, will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
