Richard H Ferrucci, 78, of West Haven, loving husband, father, and Pepa passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart, wife of 57 years, and love of his life, Sally Everone Ferrucci and his two devoted sons and daughters-in-law Richard (Rachel) Ferrucci of East Haven and Ronald (Christine) Ferrucci of North Branford. Known as Pepa to his grandchildren, Carissa (Justin) Beam of Madison, Courtney (Greg) Gagne of MA, Matthew (Amanda) Ferrucci of North Haven, Nicole Ferrucci of North Branford, and his great grandchildren Treydan, Tyson and Isabelle Beam, Hayden Gagne, and due this Spring, Aiden Ferrucci. He also leaves behind his brother Ralph Ferrucci of West Haven and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Richard was predeceased by his brother Ronald Ferrucci.
Born in New Haven on December 13, 1942 to Ralph and Harriet (St Jacques) Ferrucci, Richard graduated from West Haven High School in 1960 and immediately joined the Army. He earned his Associates Degree from New Haven College and was a hard worker from the time he was an adolescent, working at a newsstand. He found a career as a successful salesman and loved telling stories of when he worked for CT Limo and the various celebrities he encountered, from Alice Cooper to Muhammad Ali. After retirement, he became a crossing guard and looked forward to seeing “his” kids each day. Richard was an avid sailor and had a deep love for the ocean, only coming second to his one true love, family. He took great pride in teaching his family to navigate the waters, both on land and sea. He never missed a game, activity, or monumental activity for his sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his joyous cheers were always heard.
He was a community “Pepa” to all, always there to provide words of wisdom and a silly joke. A lover of history and music, you would often find him either deep in the center of a conversation or in the center of the dance floor. His humor, wisdom and love, will be missed, but will forever live on in the family he created.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green, with a funeral service commencing at 7pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
