Richard D. McHugh Sr.,75, of Wallingford passed away peacefully on Sunday May 23, 2021. Born in New Haven on February 8, 1946, Rich was a son of the late Lawrence and Dorothy Farrell McHugh. He was the beloved father of Richard D. McHugh, Jr. and Jennifer (John) Ranciato and proud grandfather of Alex and Olivia. In addition, he leaves his siblings, Larry (Patricia) McHugh, Cheryl (Mike) Violano, Gail (Jack) Egan, his former wife Linda Manginelli Hayes, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McHugh graduated from West Haven High School, received a bachelors’ degree from the University of New Haven and his MBA from SCSU. For six years, he served in the US Army Reserves. Prior to retirement, Rich was employed by the Small Business Administration and then the City of Bridgeport, where he served as the director of economic development. He also enjoyed teaching business classes at Gateway Community College. However, his most cherished time was watching Alex and Olivia’s soccer games and spending time with his children and family.
Visitation will take place on THURSDAY from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green. On Friday morning, his procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o’clock at Our Lady of Victory Church, St. John Vianney Campus, 300 Captain Thomas Blvd, West Haven. Military honors will be rendered after Mass on the church property. There will be no burial at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, New York 10016.
