Richard J. Rabbito, 79, of West Haven entered into rest on March 9, 2021. He was the loving husband of Molly Caplan Rabbito. Son of the late Marie & Rosario Rabbito. In addition to his wife, Rich leaves his 2 daughters, Susan (Jim) Jongekryg of Michigan, and Kym (Dimitrios) Staikopoulos of Greece, 4 grandchildren, Antonio (Carly) Peretta, Rachael (Kyle) Austin, Isabella & Eva Szebelledy, his great grand-daughter, Ruby Jane Austin. Rich also leaves his brother Philip and his sister Diane Stahlheber, many nieces, nephews, friends, and his favorite brother-in-law, David (Mary) Caplan of Guilford. He was predeceased by his sister Carol Voss, and his former wife Mary Rabbito.
Rich retired from the West Haven Police Department in 1998, after 27 years of service, serving in the traffic division, riding the WHPD Harley for the last 11 years. After his retirement, he worked for the U.S. Marshall Service at the federal courthouse in New Haven. Rich was an avid fly fisherman, played golf, and loved riding his Harley trike. He especially looked forward to his monthly retired police luncheons.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 12, from 4 – 6 PM, at West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A funeral service will take place at 6PM. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30AM for interment in Alder Brook Cemetery, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the West Haven Retired Officers Association (WHROA), 200 Saw Mill Road, West Haven, CT 06516. The Rabbito family understands that due to the current Covid19 pandemic some mourners may not feel comfortable attending the services, and the family would like to confirm that attendance is not required.
