Robert J. Carney

Robert J. Carney, 94, of New Haven died peacefully on October 9, 2024.  Born in New Haven on June 22, 1930, a son of the late Stephen J. Carney Sr. and Mary Dwyer Carney.  He is survived by his nephew Stephen J. Carney III and niece Judith Carney, both of West Haven, as well as many additional nieces and nephews of several generations.  Uncle Bob had the unique pleasure of being a great-great-great [3 GREATS] Uncle Bob within his lifetime.  Robert was preceded in death by his infant siblings Dolly and Jackie Carney; sisters Doris Fox and Beverly Serfilippi; brother [Bizz] Stephen J. Carney Jr; and nephew John Francis Carney.

Robert was known as “Uncle Bob” to family and friends, also a close and dedicated friend of Bill W. for over 60 years. Uncle Bob demonstrated an extraordinary talent as a Union Bricklayer and worked as a Bricklayer for the town of West Haven for many years. Uncle Bob managed to teach himself how to play piano, as well as speaking French, riding a motorcycle in his younger days, and constructing decorative, detailed doll houses as a hobby.  Uncle Bob was a proud military man who served his time in the Army as a mine sweeper during the Korean War.

Uncle Bob was a gentleman with a gracious smile, charming personality and loved by all. He would always brighten your day with his compliments and his witty humor. Uncle Bob will truly be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Apple Rehab West Haven, for the care and compassion bestowed upon him by everyone. 

Arrangements were entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  A graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, October 16th, eleven o’clock, in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in his remembrance to Apple Rehab West Haven.
