On June 26, Robert “Bob” Voss Prentice Jr. passed away peacefully with his wife Catherine Deninger Prentice by his side. Bob met the love of his life at Savin Rock in 1958.
He was a proud United States Navy Veteran, having served from 1959-1963 on the U.S.S. Boston. His then-fiancé Cathy would wait for him on the pier when the ship returned to port. They were married June 8, 1963 at St. Peter’s Church in New Haven.
After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob joined the railroad and was employed for 34 years, retiring with Metro-North’s Power Department (New Haven line). He loved his job and his railroad family.
Bob enjoyed boating & fishing and was a lifetime member at West Haven Yacht Club and Prospect Beach Fish and Game Club. Most recently he enjoyed jet skiing with his kids and grandchildren on Long Island Sound and pontoon boating with his son on Lake Erie.
Bob was born in 1938 in West Haven, son of the late Robert V. Prentice Sr. and Constance Lamel Prentice. In addition to his wife, he leaves his children, Susan Prentice Foley (Jim), Robert V. Prentice III (Patti) and Mary Prentice Pliszka (Stan) and as well his beloved grandchildren, Kaylee Pliszka, Aimee Prentice, USMC Cpl. Jared Pliszka, and Mary and Catherine Foley.
Visitation will be held on Monday July 8th, from 3-6pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Military honors will be rendered in the funeral home at 6pm. Interment will be private.
