Robert E. McCormick “Bobby”, age 91, entered eternal rest on April 7, 2022. Bobby was a true “Westie” and though he was from West Haven, CT he would respond to anyone asking, where he was from by saying he was from “The Rock” (Savin Rock). He was the son of the late Lester Sr. and Winifred McPartland McCormick. Robert is survived by his son John “Jack” McCormick and Jack’s wife Valeria “Val” McCormick. He leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Morris.
He was predeceased by his first wife and loving mother to Colleen and Jack, Lois Ann Kiernan McCormick who passed away in 1978, and his second wife Elaine McCormick who passed away in 1997. He is also predeceased by his daughter Colleen Ann Miniter and his siblings, Janet F. McCormick, Muriel Remillard, Lester V. “Sonny” McCormick Jr., Vance J. McCormick, Gertrude “Pruddy” McCormick, John “Jack” McCormick, Charles Kayes, Ann “Mary-Lou” McGovern, Ronald F. McCormick Sr., Gerard McCormick, and Paul McCormick.
Prior to his retirement, Bobby worked as a clerk for the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad. He later moved on to Amtrak as a motor storage dispatcher, where he later retired. Bobby was also a proud U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Bobby, an avid fan of Major League Baseball was also quite the athlete himself who enjoyed playing Handball and Racquetball, he was also a member of the U.S. Veterans Rowing Club where he consistently topped the leaderboard.
Bobby loved his family. He often would boast about how beautiful his grandchildren were. When meeting someone new he was known to reach into his back pocket to pull out his wallet and share a plethora of wallet-sized pictures of his “beautiful grandchildren”. As Bobby put it “Everyone says how beautiful they are/what beautiful little models” after proudly sharing recent encounters with others.
The hours for visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19th, from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, April 20th, at 10 am in St. Lawrence Church. Interment with military honors will follow.
