Ronald Gerry Shamp, age 73, of Clinton passed away on July 9, 2022, at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of MaryRose Shamp. Ronald was born on February 17, 1949 in Brawley, CA to the late Delbert and Violet (Poe) Shamp.
Ronald grew up in McKinleyville California amongst the redwoods, the beach and loved swimming in the creek. He graduated from McKinleyville High School in 1967 and was their MVP in baseball, football, and basketball. Ronald joined the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War in the Special Forces Green Beret (Airborne) Division. After completing his service, he started his own home contracting business. He went on to work in building maintenance. Ronald was an avid sports fan of the Yankees, San Francisco 49ers and UConn Women’s Basketball teams. He enjoyed drawing, tending to his house plants, and loved his dogs, Cookie and Bruno and cats, Crystal, and Gary. He was a loving and devoted father his three children, Eric, Rebecca, and Robert. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Eric Alan Shamp, Rebecca Lynn Shamp and Robert Deloss Shamp, twin brother, Donald Terry (Andrea Lawton) Shamp, brother Harold Shamp, sister, Patty Wade, and brother-in-law Allen Redden as well as his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Delbert Deloss Shamp and sister, Joyce Redden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 22, 2022, at 11 am St. Mary’s Church of the Visitation, 54 Grove Street, Clinton. Interment with full military honors to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Arrangements are in charge of West Haven Funeral Home.
