June 20th, 1931 – August 26, 2021
Rose Palmieri, 90, of West Haven was called by the Lord on August 26, 2021 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in New Haven on June 20, 1931, she was the daughter of late Josephine and Frank Fabrissio. She is preceded by her siblings Marie Berniere, James Fabrisso, Phyllis Dilella, and Joseph Fabrisso. Rose was the loving wife of the late Alexander J. Palmieri. She is survived by her sons John (Susan) Palmieri of Middletown; Alexander Jr (Lee) Palmieri of Wallingford; Mark (Bonnie) Palmieri of West Haven; her daughter Alicia and (Joe) of North Haven; five grandchildren Lea, Christopher (Anna), Mark, Alexander and Samantha; two great grandchildren Amelia Rose and Chase Christopher Palmieri; her loving nieces and nephews Michele (Joe) Holovach, Vincent (Nancy) Dilella and great nieces, Ashley and Whitney and their families.
Rose and her husband were sole proprietors of Alex’s Café in New Haven for 15 years. Rose was the sole proprietor of Palmieri’s Package store for 20 years where she was known as Miss Rose. Upon retirement she worked for Sears, Cash Oil and for the West Haven BOE as a cashier or as she liked to think CFO of cashiers. Proudly, Rose and her son Mark were the first mother and son team ever elected to the West Haven Democratic Town Committee. Rose was a member of the St. John Vianney’s Ladies Guild.
Once a month, Rose loved to play cards with family and friends. She enjoyed good food, especially lobster rolls from Stowe’s and she loved desserts. Sunday mornings were the day for coffee and a McDonald’s bacon, egg and cheese on a biscuit. Playing bingo, going to the casino, having action on the Triple Crown Races were all favorite past times. Every Friday she looked forward to getting her hair done at Bruno’s Hair Salon, having coffee and many laughs with the gang there.
Our Family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Lynne Hillis for the many years of ongoing care and attention she gave our mom, the West Haven Paramedics, the doctors and nurses at the YNHH ER and EP46, Yale hospice care, Kindred at Home and the staff at Maplewood, Orange for going above and beyond to care for our beloved mother.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday August 31st from 9:30-11:30 at the West Haven Funeral Home at the green. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon at the Church of St. Louis, St. John XXIII Parish. Entombment will follow in the Garden Mausoleum, St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either American Heart Association or to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. MASKS ARE REQUIRED AT ALL SERVICES.
