Ross Skinner Sr. Obituary

Ross Michael Skinner Sr., after a beautiful and blessed life,  passed away on February 13, 2023 at the age 93. He lived in West Haven, CT, formerly of Michigan (Oakland and Ostego Counties) and Lewistown, Pennsylvania. For 62 years, he was the loving husband of the late Mary Anita Chamberlain Skinner.  Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late Ross and Marguerite Burns Skinner.  He is survived by his children Ross  (Pam) Skinner, Jr. of Olympia, WA, Jeffrey Skinner of Tacoma, WA, Thomas (Bev) Skinner of Flower Mound, TX, and Pamela  (John) Roper of West Haven, CT, his grandchildren April (Cat) Skinner-Chickering, Jessica (Brian) Lindstrom, Andrew (Ari) Skinner, Jacob (Andrea) Skinner, Chris Roper, Jordan (Elaine) Skinner, Cody (Ashley) Skinner, Sarah (Joe) Cipriani, and Kelly Roper, his great grandkids, Ava, Lucas Ross, Jett, Gianni, Wilder, Watson, and Jade, his siblings ,all of Michigan, Ralph Skinner, Lawrence Skinner and Mary Spicer.

In addition to his wife and parents, Ross was predeceased by his daughter Linda Jean Skinner, his siblings, John Eugene Skinner, Ursula Ryan, Charles Skinner and Kathleen Berger.

Ross was a devout Catholic and an honest and humble man. It was the simple things in life that gave him the greatest pleasure. He loved his wife and his family, his Catholic faith, being outdoors, Michigan State and all things Michigan State, Up North, baseball, football, Sunday drives, meeting new people, going to mass, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, handball, golf, dancing, and gardening.  He always took the road less traveled. He enjoyed extended stays with family in Texas and Washington. He loved being with his brothers and sisters in Michigan pontooning, playing cards, listening to his sister play piano, laughing, singing, and perhaps a cigar and a “final final!” Later in life, he loved Thirsty Thursday and the crew,  Duckpin Bowling and the crew,  the crew at the beach, the St. Patrick’s Day parade, especially being the guest on the viewing stand,  the bagpipers, and anything social. He had a full life in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut, with countless friends and family. He was a very well loved and respected man with a radiating smile.

He had many jobs including History teacher in Clawson, Michigan, Principal in Marlette, Michigan, Marlette Homes Supervisor, which brought our family to Pennsylvania. He then returned to education and was the principal at Kishacoquillas High School, Assistant principal at Lewistown High School, and he retired after 31 ½ years in the education business. In Lewistown he served as a lectern at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, where he was an active parishioner. He was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He served in the United States Air Force 1950-1953. He served on many councils, boards, and volunteer groups. He will be greatly missed.
