Ruth (Haupt) Tietjen

Ruth Tietjen, age 93, of West Haven passed away peacefully at home on November 6, 2023.  She was the wife of the late Henry L. Tietjen.  Ruth was born in Terryville, CT, daughter of the late Robert and Emily Jabs Haupt.  She is survived by her children, Wendy (Donald) Berning of Indiana and Scott Tietjen of West Haven, her grandchildren Emily (Brandon) Johnson and Eric (Stephanie) Berning, and her great grandchildren, Henry Johnson and Jacob & Elizabeth Berning.  In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was also predeceased by her siblings, her twin brother Richard Haupt, Janet Gluz, Edna Brusick, Eric Haupt and Rev. Robert Haupt. 

Ruth was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Orange (formerly New Haven).  Ruth attended and graduated from West Haven High School and New Haven State Teachers College.  She worked as a local teacher before starting her family. Ruth loved her Lord and was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.  She was best known for her love of cooking and baking, hosting countless gatherings in their home.

A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, November 16 at 10:00 in Alder Brook Cemetery, Guilford.  Family and friends will gather at the Tietjen home following the graveside ceremony.  Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 780 Grassy Hill Rd, Orange CT 06477.
