For Flapper — Sherri-Lynn

In Memory of Our Beautiful Friend, Sherri-Lynn

Your light, your laughter, and your love will never fade.

You came into life with a storm in your wake,
But oh, how you danced through the winds you would break.
With laughter and light, you lit up our days,
A wild-hearted soul in the sun’s golden blaze.

Flapper, we called you — and how it did fit,
All sparkle and sass, full of humor and grit.
From wild youthful nights to backyard affairs,
You turned every moment to something we’d share.

Always the first to say, “Let’s go, let’s try!”
With a wink in your eye and your head held high.
You laughed with the loudest, you gave without pause,
You loved without judgment, you lived without laws.

You cooked from the heart, with spices and grace,
And planted your peace in the soil of your place.
In flowers and herbs, your joy found its way —
Even when shadows would darken your day.

For pain came and lingered, silent and deep,
And pulled you too often down into sleep.
We reached out our hands, but you turned your face —
Some places are private, some wounds leave no trace.

Still, we loved you — we always, always will.
And though your strong body at last has grown still,
Your spirit still dances, as fierce as before,
Just past this life’s edge, on a brighter shore.

Sherri-Lynn, our Flapper, your laughter remains,
Like perfume in spring, like soft summer rains.
Fifty years or more woven, not one thread will sever —
You’re part of our hearts, now and forever.

So, rest now, sweet friend, let the hurt and pain fall away.
We’ll carry your love every step of the way.
You’re not truly gone — just out of our view.
But oh, what a gift, to have journeyed with you.

With love and remembrance,
From all of us who were lucky enough to call you friend.
