Silverio Mazzella Obituary

Silverio (Sal) Mazzella, 85, of West Haven, beloved husband of Dominica (Angelina) Mazzella for 58 years, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 12, 2025.

Born on January 12, 1940, in Ponza, Italy, Sal was the son of the late Maria and Elio (Michele) Mazzella. In 1967, he made West Haven his home, where he built a life rooted in hard work, friendship, and unwavering love for his family.

Sal had a deep connection to the sea and spent countless joyful hours aboard his boat at the West Haven Yacht Club, where he fished, relaxed, and shared stories with friends and loved ones. When not on the water, he could often be found tending to his garden, tinkering on projects in his garage, or playing a lively game of Scopa or solitaire at the kitchen table. His quiet strength and generosity touched everyone he met—especially his grandchildren, for whom he could fix anything and always had a solution in hand.

Sal had a soft spot for animals, never missing a chance to sneak treats to the family dogs—Mackenzie, Abby, and Abel—who eagerly awaited the goodies tucked in his shirt pocket.

In addition to his devoted wife, Angelina, Sal leaves his sister Anna Maria Tudino (late Antonio Tudino); his sister-in-law, Raphaela Petruzziello (Amato Petruzziello); his children, Maria Gallucci, Rosanna Mazzella (Joseph Knight), Vito Mazzella (late Sharon Mazzella), and late son Michael Mazzella (Lorianne Mazzella); and his beloved grandchildren, Dante Gallucci, Antonio Gallucci, and Alyssa Gallucci (Aaron Pine). He will also be dearly missed by extended family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Sal’s legacy of kindness, craftsmanship, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those he loved so deeply.

Sal passed down more than skills—he passed down values. His lessons, both big and small, will continue to be shared and lived through generations of his family.

The hours for visitation will take place on Monday June 16, 2025 from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home.  On Tuesday morning, the procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Vianney Church of St. John XXIII Parish at 10 o’clock.  Entombment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
