Silvey Annita Samuel

Silvey Samuel age 86, of West Haven passed away on Wednesday May 6, 2020 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Silvey was born on February 13, 1934 in Manchester, Jamaica in the West Indies, daughter of the late Daniel and Sarah Thompson. Loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her children Edgar (Hortense) Garvin, Carol Emery and Paul (Rosemarie) Garvin; grandchildren Dwight, Jason (Payal), Athena (Abram), Judy, Krystal, Jonathan and Daniel; and great grandchildren, Darion, Jai and Taj. As well as her sister Katherine Brown and brothers, Cecil, Leonard, Lawrence, Joseph, Robert, Junior and Samuel Thompson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A gifted seamstress, Silvey won a design contest that brought her to the United States in 1969 to work in New York City’s Garment District. She later relocated to White Plains where she started her 34 years career at New York Presbyterian Hospital. It was there that she built a loving, faith filled home for her children and enjoyed her pastimes of cooking, baking and entertaining. Silvey will always be remembered as an honest and extremely charitable woman of unwavering faith. She lived a life led by God, exemplifying devotion to both her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all.
