Stephen G. Morrell, 62, of West Haven, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on January 5, 2026, after a brave battle with cancer.
Steve is survived by the love of his life of 44 years, Laurie Tannoia Morrell; his children, Stephen (Gianna) Morrell and Alyssa (Kevin) Valdegas; his adored grandchildren, Olivia Morrell and Leo Valdegas; and his brother, James (Kathleen) Morrell. He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Lois Goss Morrell.
For the past 30 years, Steve worked as an insulator and was a proud member of Union Local 33, serving as Union President for five years. When not working, Steve could often be found on his motorcycle, riding alongside his friends, frequently taking his Frenchie, “Harley,” along for rides by the beach.
Every week, Steve looked forward to dinner with his “Thursday Night Crew” and breakfast at the diner each weekend. He was immensely proud of his children’s accomplishments and never missed a softball game for Alyssa or a hockey game for Stephen. Over the years, he especially cherished coaching Stephen in hockey, and together they enjoyed attending weekly hockey games at West Haven High School.
Favorite family memories include Vermont vacations and countless summers spent in New Hampshire at Lake Winnipesaukee.
Steve will be remembered as the most loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to so many. His strength, sacrifice, unconditional love, and guidance shaped our lives forever. Every one of us was his joy, and he was ours.
Visitation for Steve will take place on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00pm at the West Haven Funeral Home, 662 Savin Avenue, West Haven. On Monday, January 12, 2026, a prayer service will begin at 10 o’clock at the funeral home. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
"We will endure a lifetime of missing you for the privilege of loving you"
