Steven P. Chuckrey

Steven P. Chuckrey, 72, of West Haven, died peacefully at his residence on July 9, 2024. He was born in New Haven on January 21, 1952, a son of the late Steven Chuckrey and Eleanor Trickett. Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Marie (Giamenelli) Chuckrey, his loving son, Robert House, brother David Trickett, nephews Richard Chuckrey Jr. and Michael Chuckrey, as well as cousins Fran (Richard) Nankee and Donald (Dawn) Roman Sr. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard Chuckrey and sister Kathryn Chuckrey.

During his youth, Steve cherished summers spent at his aunt's farm in Vermont. In his early adulthood, he resided in Vermont and New Hampshire, working as an EMT and mechanic, before returning to Connecticut. Steve married Anne Marie in 1988, and on June 24th of this year, they celebrated 36 years of marriage.

Steve found fulfillment at Home Depot, where he worked for 16 years as a power specialist and garden guru before retiring. He was a devoted father to Robert, known as the ultimate hockey dad, enthusiastically supporting Robert's tournaments across Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts. Steve was a dedicated season ticket holder of the Quinnipiac University Ice Hockey Team, witnessing their National Championship win in 2023. He also cheered passionately for the Green Bay Packers.

In addition to his professional and family life, Steve enjoyed hobbies such as trains and building intricate Lego creations. In recent years, he collaborated with Puerto Vallarta Restaurants to raise funds and collect toys for Yale New Haven Hospital Children's Hospital, contributing $9,000 and numerous toys in December.

He will be remembered as a kind, generous, loving, and honorable man with a dry sense of humor, who cherished his family and friends unconditionally.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 12th, from 4 to 7 o’clock, at which time his funeral service will take place within the funeral parlor.  Interment will remain private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Steven's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
