Steven Howe Obituary

Steven Carl Howe, age 59, made his journey to Heaven on Sunday, October 20th after a yearlong courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer. He leaves behind to be the keeper of the memories, his devoted wife Donna Howe.

Currently of Branford, CT, he was born on July 17, 1965, and lived in West Haven all his life, and was a true Blue Westie at heart.  In 2021, after 25 years working in Retail Management, Steven semi-retired to Fort Pierce, FL.  where he found happiness in never having to shovel another snowflake again. He was the Ultimate Boston Red Sox fan, a pro golfer in his own mind, and always made time to fish - never once letting the big one get away.

Steven loved to travel with his wife Donna, always eager to find a top-rated golf course to play and to “see the Wonders of the World together.”  Being a true romantic at heart prompted yearly weekends in Stowe, VT to enjoy winter wonderland sleigh rides.

Steve loved the simple things of life: picnics on the deck, a good cigar, a couple of cold beers with friends, a Woodford’s Manhattan, and his favorite traditions with the family, especially lobster rolls on Christmas Eve and his wife’s Christmas cookies and pumpkin pie.  His laugh, sarcastic sense of humor, and incredible sense of loyalty will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Left to cherish his memory, in addition to his wife, he leaves behind his three stepdaughters who he was absolutely devoted to, Jacquelynn (Michael) Giammattei, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Cheung, and Bernadette Romano.  He also leaves his father Richard Howe, sister Darlene DeVenero, sister-in-law Dianne Mathews, in-laws Don and Mary, Aunt Barbara, cousins Nick (Lisa), Barry (Dina) and “favorite cousin” Linda (Tommy), and their children, Morgan (Dania), Cameron (Omi), Steven and Jenna who he had an extra special bond with, and his two long standing best friends, Bill and Mike.  He was predeceased by his mother Linda Howe and brother-in-law Raymond DeVenero.

He was known as Steve to everyone, “Stevie” by his family and “Howie” to many of his longtime friends, but his most favorite name ever was “Papa Steve” by his step-grandchildren Vincenzo James, Natalie Jay and Jeffrey Kit (JJ), who he absolutely adored and treasured. Steve also leaves behind his two favorite puppers, Joey Meatballs and Sophie Girl.

Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green.  Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Sunday, October 27th from 3 to 6 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Monday, October 28th at 11 o’clock.  Interment will be private.
