Theodore "Ted" Borowy, 69, of Hamden, died peacefully at home on November 15, 2024. Born in Bridgeport on March 4, 1955, a son of the late Joseph and Wanda Smist Borowy. He is survived by his life partner Janice Jacobs; siblings Richard (Sue), Christine, and Paul (Beth) Borowy; nephews Michael, Brayden, Nicholas, Joseph and Jonathan Borowy and Joseph Wierzbicki. In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Sally.
While attending Trumbull High School, Ted achieved the highest score player award in Basketball. Throughout his adulthood, Ted served as umpire for local sports teams, and he was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and UConn Huskies Women’s Basketball.
Ted was a corrections officer for the State of Connecticut for 30 years and he was recognized as the distinguished “Corrections Officer of the Year” in 2002.
Ted served as Eucharistic Minister for the local Catholic Churches; was a volunteer for the food pantry at WHEAT; and delivered food to the homebound of New Haven for FISH.
Arrangements have been entrusted to West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21 from 5 until 7 o’clock at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 22 at 10 o’clock in St. Michael Church, 75 Derby Avenue, Derby, CT. Attendees are asked to meet directly at church. Interment will immediately follow in St. John Cemetery, 2610 Nichols Avenue, Stratford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to WHEAT, the donor’s local Humane Society, or the American Diabetes Society in his remembrance.
