Thomas Halligan Obituary

Thomas M. Halligan, 68, of West Haven, entered into rest on May 11, 2025, with his family by his side. Along with his devoted wife, Marilyn Capelli Halligan, Tom is survived by his beloved daughters Marissa (Kirsten Harlow) Halligan and Ashley (Brian) Jackson; and grandson Keegan Jackson, who brought him unlimited joy and happiness. Marilyn’s siblings Sandra Capelli, Andrea Capelli, Ed Capelli, and the late Louis Capelli; his nieces, nephews, great niece, and great nephews all loved Tom dearly. In addition to his parents James and Beverly Halligan, Tom was preceded in death by his brother James Halligan III.

Tom retired from the West Haven VA Medical Center as the Chief of Communications after more than 25 years of service.  Upon his retirement from the VA, he became a paraprofessional in the West Haven school system, working at Carrigan School.  In his youth, Tom received all his religious sacraments at the former St. Lawrence Church, West Haven.  He served as an active communicant at the former Our Lady of Victory Church. He continued his religious devotion at St. John XXIII Parish, specifically St. John Vianney Church, and was responsible for organizing men’s retreats at the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center in Hartford.  Additionally, he was knighted and served as the Grand Knight of the Holy Father John Paul the Second Council #14326.

Words cannot describe the loss felt by Tom’s heartbroken family and his vast network of friends.  He will forever be missed.

The hours for visitation will take place on Wednesday May 14 from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home.  On Thursday morning the procession will leave the funeral home at 9:00. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Vianney Church of St. John XXIII Parish at 9:30. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
