Vincent Nitido,90, of Branford passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. He was the husband of the late Corinne Carrignan Nitido. At the time of Corinne’s passing in October, they had been married for almost 70 years. Born on June 18, 1934, Vin was a son of the late Vincent and Mary Fazzina Nitido and a lifelong West Haven resident until moving to Branford a few years ago.
The patriarch of a large and loving family, Vin was the proud father of six children including Vincent (Laurie) Nitido, Richard (Kelly) Nitido, Thomas (Wendy) Nitido, Nancy (Lee) Meyer, Mary (Jamie) Horvath, Dianne (Jim) Eagan, 16 adored grandchildren, and 7 precious great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Vincent was predeceased by his eldest grandson Brian Meyer, sister Helen Davey (who did an excellent job keeping him in line), and brothers Alfred, Arthur, and Robert Nitido.
A veteran of the US Navy, he graduated UNH as a Mechanical Engineer, retired as a Program Director after 35 years from Textron/Avco Lycoming. Former coach and past president of West Haven League; former coach of West Haven Midget Football, Biddy Basketball and Center Allingtown Basketball Leagues. Past president of the Notre Dame Fathers Club and member of their Board of Directors. He was an inductee of the West Haven High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
A celebration of Vin’s life will take place on Saturday morning February 8th at the West Haven Funeral Home from 8 to 10:30. Prayers will begin at 10:30, followed by interment with military honors in Oak Grove Cemetery.
