Walter Donovan, 87, a West Haven Rock Rat, entered into rest on December 29, 2023. He was the husband of the late Rosemarie Brasile Donovan. Walt leaves his son Gary, daughter-in-law Judy; his 3 grandchildren Alyssa, Gary Jr., Paul Jr.; and his companion Patty Montefusco. He was predeceased by his son Paul; and four brothers Charles, Edward, Francis and William.
Walt worked for several area companies as a truck driver. In addition, he proudly served his country enlisting in the Army. However, his pride and joy were his family and their achievements. Walt literally spent years involved with West Haven Little League, beginning in the 1970’s until the 2000’s. He and Rose could be found at Morse Park watching their sons play baseball and continued this tradition travelling to see the grandchildren and friends play baseball, softball and their sports. Walt earned the nickname, “the gentleman’s umpire” as he was well known and fair when umping games. Baseball was a favorite sport for Walt and he was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
The hours for visitation will take place on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. On Friday morning, the procession will leave the funeral home at 11:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Vianney Church of St. John XXIII Parish at noon. Interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fisher House of West Haven, c/o 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT. 06516.
