Walter C. Hollums, 70, a lifelong resident of West Haven, passed peacefully at his home on April 24, 2025. Eldest son of the late Walter F. and Erna Weinberger Hollums, Walter was born at the Army Hospital in Wurzburg, Germany.
Walter graduated from West Haven High School in 1972. While in his senior year of high school, Walter enlisted in the US Navy and began his service immediately upon graduation. He proudly served aboard the USS Ogden and the USS Fulton and was honorably discharged in 1976, due to a service-related injury. Walter will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, helping anyone who asked. He enjoyed music and singing, often making up humorous songs about his everyday life.
Walter’s loving family includes his siblings: the late Rhonda (Michael) Minnix, Luther (Linda) Hollums, Mark (Moira) Hollums, Antony (Nancy) Hollums, Linda (Jeff) Madden, Mona Hollums, who was his devoted family caregiver, and Wally (Christopher) DelVecchio, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 4 to 7 pm at the West Haven Funeral Home. On Wednesday morning, family and friends may gather at the funeral home at 11 am. A procession will follow to Oak Grove Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered at 11:30 am.
