Warren Caverly Obituary

Warren Clifford “Noog” Caverly has passed away at the age of 88, from natural causes (3/18/1933 – 12/30/2021). Prior to his death, he told his daughter he had “had a pretty good run.”

In his younger days, Warren cut a heroic figure while serving in the United States Marine Corps as an aerial navigator in the Pacific, during the Korean War. He told us he found Midway Island every time, even when the instruments malfunctioned, which is apparently true. After surviving polio as a child, he went on to work as a machinist, shop foreman, AFSCME/AFL-CIO union organizer, and eventually a labor relations executive after the war. He was proud to be an agitator, in general. Born in White Plains, NY, he grew up in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, and as an adult he lived and raised his daughter Kathleen in West Haven, CT, then relocated to White Sulphur Springs, WV, with his loving wife Mary Ann.  He loved to host a party, cook a meal, spin a yarn, pull a leg, tell a ridiculously long joke. He even wrote a book once.

“Uncle Noog” was a devoted family man; he leaves behind an array of treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins in addition to his daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and James Ayers, grandchild Jasmine, baby sister Helen Christman, sister and brother-in-law and former roommates Eileen (Brinke) and Harold Ryder.  He is predeceased by the love of his life Mary Ann (Brinke), his parents William J. and Helen (Hansen) Caverly, and his siblings William Caverly, Lila Barbato, Mary Kavanaugh, and Walter Caverly.

He was not a fan of ceremony or pomp, so a fitting memorial will be planned in the form of a grand St. Patrick’s Day-themed party after the pandemic recedes. In lieu of flowers, donations to DAV (dav.org) would be deeply appreciated.

All Funeral Services will be private in care of West Haven Funeral Home.
