William J. Carr, age 79, formerly of West Haven, entered into eternal rest on December 9, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Nichols Carr; his sons, Kevin D. Carr and his wife Amber-Lynn, and Michael J. Carr; his cherished grandsons, Christopher T. and Liam R. Carr; and his dear cousins Dawn Rogers, Danny Rogers, and Karen Karall. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, William was the only child of the late Thomas Francis and Elsie Ingram Carr.
William proudly served six years in the Connecticut National Guard before beginning his career as a firefighter. A dedicated public servant, he was affectionately known as “Bouncy” and served with honor at the West Haven Center District firehouse. During his tenure, he was an active member of the department’s softball team and took great pride in organizing the annual summer family picnic, an occasion that brought together family, fun, and fellowship among his fellow firefighters.
As proud as he was of his firefighting career, William found equal joy in the hockey community alongside his sons and grandson. He served on the Connecticut Hockey Conference board as a tournament director, earning recognition throughout the state as a true “fixture at the rink.” His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his grandsons—attending hockey practices and games, attending school concerts, enjoying movie outings, and sharing their cherished tradition of Ice Cream Fridays.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home 662 Savin Ave, West Haven, CT 06516. On Friday morning, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main Street, Trumbull. Please proceed directly to the church.
